College Essay Workshop

The College Application Essay allows students to reveal what makes them exceptional—it is the most personal component of the application process and also the most grueling.  After four sessions and a private exit consultation, students will have two compelling final draft essays and a short answer response to send to the colleges of their choice.  They will be able to enter senior year with the most difficult portion of the application process behind them; they will learn about themselves, their writing style, and have fun in the process.  This course will be limited to four students per workshop.

Session One:  The group will look at model essays and discuss what makes them exceptional.  The rest of the session will be dedicated to brainstorming and drafting the essays.  Students MUST come to Session Two with a completed first draft of at least one essay.

Session Two:
Students will receive personal feedback and suggestions on how to improve their essays; also, they will have the opportunity to peer edit each other’s work.  This seminar style will prepare them for college-like classes.  They will spend time in session perfecting Essay One and beginning Essay Two.  Students MUST come to Session Three with a completed rough draft of Essay Two and a rough draft of the short response.

Session Three:  Students will continue to revise and perfect essays with the help of the instructor and fellow students.

Session Four: Students will conference individually with the instructor using the three most updated versions of their essays and short answers.   The instructor will suggest any and all final changes to each piece.

Private Consultation:  Within three weeks of the final session, when a student has made all suggested changes to his or her drafts, the student will have the opportunity to schedule a private hour and a half consultation with an instructor to be sure that each essay is submission ready.  This appointment can be scheduled through our office at the time of registration.

Cancellation Policy

Since our teachers set their schedules well in advance, we require a minimum of 8 hours notice to cancel a private session.  Less than 8 hour notice will require a charge of one half of the rate of the appointment.  If a student cannot make a group session such as an SAT class, we do our best to provide an opportunity for the student to make up a missed session with another group.  However, if there are no available group options, private make up sessions for missed classes will be provided at our regular hourly rate.  There are no refunds for missed classes.  To cancel please contact the teacher through email or phone (if provided) or send a message through our Contact Us page.
