MEET OUR STAFF

Grace B. Opdyke BS Spec/El Ed.
Grace is a graduate of Gwynedd Mercy College with degrees in both Special and Elementary Education.  Early in her career, Mrs. Opdyke taught at a variety of levels in the archdiocesan school system.  After tutoring students privately in many subject areas, Grace decided “to hang her shingle” officially as a private tutor.  Early in her tutoring career, she saw the need for standardized test instruction for grade school students preparing to take the high school placement tests for area private and archdiocesan schools.  Grace developed and implemented a one of a kind preparation program for the Scholastic Testing Service’s HSPT test.  She also provided one on one instruction for the ISEE and SSAT exams.  Her wealth of knowledge grows in both the high school and college admissions processes as she continues her research in an effort to provide clear and updated information to students and parents.

Ms. Monica Harris

Mrs. Harris received her Elementary Education degree from Gwynedd Mercy College and her Masters degree  from Drexel University.  Monica has training with the Wilson Reading System and Wilson Just Words program. Both programs allow for group and individual instruction in Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension. The Wilson Method can be tailored to specific needs for students in grades PK-3. Currently, Mrs. Harris has experience teaching both first and fifth grade. She also taught Spanish 1 at Cedarbrook Middle School in Cheltenham Township. She has tutored Spanish for students from fourth through twelfth grade and has also worked with adults learning the language. Mrs. Harris tutors both reading and math up to the eighth grade level, instructs our HSPT course, works privately with students preparing for the SSAT and ISEE,  and is responsible for all Spanish tutoring during the school year.

Mrs. Mary Eichelman
Mrs. Eichelman currently teaches chemistry and physics  at Villa Maria Academy High School where she also serves as Department Chairwoman for the Sciences. Mary has taught honors and college preparatory courses in both disciplines.  Mrs. Eichelman received her BS in Chemical Engineering from Michigan State University and her MBA from the University of Michigan.  She has been teaching at Villa Maria Academy since 2006. Mrs. Eichelman offers all levels chemistry and physics tutoring during the school year and teaches our chemistry and physics summer courses.

Miss Christi Karr
B.A. Mathematics Elementary/Secondary Math/Library Science Certification
Ms. Karr received her bachelor’s degree in mathematics as well as certification in elementary education and secondary education, mathematics, from Lycoming College.  She is currently working on her master’s degree in LIS at Drexel University.  She has taught in both elementary and secondary education classrooms.  Currently, Ms. Karr is teaching 6th grade science and social studies in Interboro School District.  Here at GBO, Ms. Karr  is available for tutoring for all levels of high school math including honors Calculus, she is also one of our SAT math instructors and teaches several of our summer Math courses.

Kristin Shoemaker
Ms. Shoemaker earned a B.A. in Psychology from Chestnut Hill College, her M.A. in Higher Education Counseling/Student Affairs from West Chester University, and a Pennsylvania certificate in Secondary School Counseling from West Chester University. With over fifteen years of career and college counseling experience, Ms. Shoemaker has spent much of her career guiding students through the college and financial aid application process.   She has also conducted Study Skills workshops to help students succeed academically with the college preparatory curriculum.  Kristin will be offering college counseling and paying for college workshops through our Blue Bell office and is currently working with our students in English, Study Skills, SAT, ACT , and HSPT preparation.

Mani Shahidsales   Contact

Mr. Shahidsales earned a B.S. in Computer Science from Drexel University. He is currently an IT Architect at a leading technology company with nearly 20 years’ experience designing large-scale computer applications for clients in various industries. He mainly uses applied math to deduce meaning from unstructured data sets. Mani is qualified to tutor students in all areas of mathematics, and he is currently instructing our clients in Geometry, Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry, Calculus, Computer Programming, SAT Math and Biology. At our Blue Bell office, Mani successfully taught a full year of Probability and Statistics that was accepted for credit by the Wissahickon School District.

John Woehlcke
B.A. English
Mr. Woehlcke received his B.A. in English from St. Joseph’s University in 1999.  He has taught English in the archdiocesan high schools for the past 14 years.  John is currently teaching  at Archbishop John Carroll HS in Radnor, PA where he also serves as an assistant football coach and weight room moderator.  Mr. Woehlcke has been honing his craft in SAT Prep for five years, the last two for GBO. John has extensive experience helping students   to develop study skills and writing strategies.  He also teaches our College Essay Workshops as well as our ACT classes.  He most enjoys working one on one with students in a variety of subjects including but not limited to English/Language Arts, Social Studies, Economics and Business.  He presents goal oriented instruction that leaves students feeling prepared and ready to tackle the challenges presented to them.





Brian Wagner
Mr. Wagner earned a B.S. in Mathematics from Cabrini University. He currently teaches math at Villa Maria Academy and teaches summer math courses at St. Joe's Prep. Additionally, Brian teaches SAT/ACT prep at both St. Joe's as well as Villa Maria. He previously instructed a required math course at Cabrini University, tutored in Cabrini’s Math Resource Center, and worked with adults pursuing their G.E.D. at Montgomery County Industrialization Center. Brian started at GBO in 2012 and tutors all parts of the SAT, all parts of the ACT, and all levels of high school math.

Mrs. Mary Frances Traywick

B.S. in Secondary Education History

M.A. in School Counseling

Mrs. Mary Frances Traywick earned her B.S. in in Secondary Education Social Studies, with a concentration in History, from West Chester University, and her M.A. in School Counseling from Eastern University. She also received her Certificate in Advanced Graduate Studies in Professional Counseling from Eastern University and has served as a Teaching Assistant in their College of Education Graduate Program. Additionally, she holds a Pennsylvania Professional Education Certificate in both School Counseling, PreK to 12, as well in Social Studies, Secondary Education. She is also a member of the Pennsylvania Association for College Admission Counseling (PACAC), in addition to the American School Counselor Association (ASCA). Mary Fran has been a school counselor for over twenty years, serving as the Director of Guidance in various high schools throughout the Archdiocese of Philadelphia System of Secondary Schools. She currently is a school counselor with Mount Saint Joseph Academy. Mary Fran is excited and passionate about helping students and their families navigate the college admission, application, and financial aid process and landscape, assisting them to realize their full potential and attain their college and career goals. She is committed to supporting students with every aspect of the admission and application process (the college search, course selection, standardized test planning, letters of recommendations, academic profile, extracurricular activities, interviews, essays, etc.) and she is eager to help them during this exciting journey!


Ms. Mariel Becker

B.A. Biology

Mariel attended Germantown Academy for high school and recently graduated Wesleyan University with a B.A. in Biology. Next year she is attending Thomas Jefferson Medical School. Her teaching experiences include tutoring, acting as a teaching assistant, designing a pre-med Physics curricula for the University of Glasgow in Scotland, and teaching an original class for fellow undergraduates. She received formal teaching training as a T.E.U. Fellow in Hartford, CT. Mariel’s strength is adapting her teaching to fit different learning styles. She uses colors, visuals and creative analogies to keep her students engaged. Mariel emphasizes the importance of staying organized and prepares by making study schedules. She tutors all middle school math, geometry, algebra 1, statistics, and all grades science, history and English. She is also available for college essay writing and smart study skills. Her overall aim is to leave her students feeling confident and empowered.
